And then check out the blog for Althea Crome who made the tiny real-life sweaters for the movie. There is a YouTube video on the site of how she made them that will blow your mind.

Brightly Music Robin’s “Valentine” song for Alisha. Pay close attention to the song and you’ll hear these words… “I’ll bring the needle if you’ll bring the thread and we’ll stitch these hearts together” — pretty clever kid, eh?

A book recommendation: “A Single Thread” by Marie Bostwick .

singlethreadcoverweb

We found it at Walmart. It is a REALLY good read! Marie writes about quilting in a way that makes you feel that you’re right there. Her characters feel like you are standing in the store, observing them — it is the most intimate story with a quilt theme I have read. And guess what? She’s writing a second novel!! I hope she writes about these characters for a LONG time. I wish Cobbled Court Quilt shop really existed.

Here are the pictures of the quilt that I saw at the Santa Rosa Quilt Guild.  Pictures are never as good as the real thing, but I hope it inspires you as well.

srquilt1Simple, but amazing, isn’t it? The black border really sets it off.

All this week I’ve felt like Cinderella at the ball. My experience at Asilomar has been nothing short of fantastic! But all good things, as the clock strikes midnight around the Monterey Bay, must come to an end.

This is just a short wrap-up as I get my things packed into my car and prepare for my drive back home.

…but wait!! There’s much much more coming in the next few days. Listen-in as I describe the line-up.

Wow, it’s turning into a whirlwind week for me here in Asilomar. I enjoy rubbing elbows with all of the attendees. I’m trying to meet and talk to as many quilters as I can in the short time I have.
I mention the line-up of wonderful trainers in this session at Asilomar. I’m going to try and get some interviews with them before I run out of week. Be sure and visit their links. Leave them a comment and tell them I sent you!

Program 158 – From the Empty Spools Seminar

…in Asilomar California!

podcast
Running time: 00:09:51 Size: 4.6 MB

The last few weeks have just flown by and I must apologize for the delay in getting you a podcast. Thanks for your patience.

I’m calling this podcast in from the Empty Spools Seminar in Asilomar California. I plan to update you a few times between now and Saturday so come back often.

I gave a presentation at Sunday evening’s opening session. Here is a picture of what the stage looked like – filled with my quilts. It was a surreal experience.

blurry_stage

In my presentation I speak of finding your inner mojo, muse, or inspiration. Often times you can find them in everyday things or things left behind from a departed loved one. One of the tools I use is a hat that my mother owned. I’m sure she bought it back in the early 60’s. She never threw anything away. So I inherited it and now use it to help me find my creative path.
mojo_hat

No, it’s not a bouquet of flowers. It really is a hat! There’s more to it than that. I may post the talk I gave so you can better understand what I’m talking about.

The Disks are Burning

Quilting Stash shows 1-141 DVD’s are burning fast and furious so we can get them in the mail to all of you who donated to the podcast.  Thank you for your patience — they will be on their way shortly.

WebGuy has been burning the candle at both ends to get the DVD indexed with all 141 shows since it began in 2005. Quite a task!

This is the last chance to donate to Quilting Stash and receive a thank you gift of a podcast-packed DVD. A $30 donation to the podcast will have a DVD on its’ way to your home.

To donate, just look left for the complete information.

I lost the sound files by clicking my mouse just a little to quickly — to my (and WebGuy’s) dismay. I want to use them for the podcast featuring all of the ideas early next week — so please call back this weekend?!

Program 156 – A Visit With the Teacher’s Pet, Kathy Brown!

podcast
Running time: 00:59:30 Size: 27.2 MB

Kathy is a barrel of fun and I enjoyed spending time with her and her friends from The Quilt Corner so much.

Here are some pictures with Kathy:

ellaSweet little Ella Fitzgerald, the Corgi.

ordersThe Order Fulfillment department. Don’t you love Kathy’s system? This would also be a great storage solution for fabric, books, magazines, etc. I love how colorful and happy it is.

shlef1More of Kathy’s storage system. Check out her stash of Fat Quarter packs and Jelly Rolls!

warningI love warnings like this on the side of boxes! There were at least 6 more flavors of King cake to choose from on the box.

houseThis is a cute little house in Kathy’s neighborhood. The house design is so native to Louisiana. The roofs have an extra-pitched angle so the heat disperses better in the hot, humid summer months. I had never seen houses with roofs pitched so high.

Don’t forget to visit Kathy’s website, The Teacher’s Pet and her blog to leave a comment for a chance to win one of her Take 5 patterns. You’ll be amazed at the talent that you see on Kathy’s website!

Then on to Alabama and Georgia, where I met this wonderful lady, Sandi Cain.

Denice Eubanks with her quilty likeness, made by a friend. It was so fun to meet Quilting Stash listeners!

cupMy new favorite cup was given to me by Denise – which has the symbols of South Carolina on it. The Palmetto tree was used for its’ porous wood, used to build forts during the Civil War. The wood withstood the barrage so the forts remained standing. The crescent moon was the symbol on Confederate Soldiers caps. (I didn’t know that?!) The cup is really nice and sturdy and perfect for dunking Oreos — my treat when I watch LOST.

Then, I finally made it to North Carolina and Ryan and Karen’s where I promptly forgot to take a picture of my arrival — I was so happy to be there and so totally frozen. We all enjoyed cups of hot chocolate that Sandi Cain sent with me as a bon voyage. It was so cold while I was there that we finished the tin of hot chocolate mix! Yummy!!

On the night before I left NC for home, we made an unplanned visit to Thimble Pleasures, which was recommended to me by my pal, Kay MacKenzie, who is a native Chapel Hill girl. She said that it was the best – and I tend to agree ; )

It was SO fun to meet Celeste, who was totally surprised when she heard my voice. Ryan and Karen were tickled that someone actually knew me.
