Anne Howe’s website — on the topic of downshifting
I wrote a potential obituary for myself, if I don’t get a hold on my fabric stash, I might be in danger of this consequence:
Woman Suffocates Under Clutter
A California woman who was reported missing was later found deceased, apparently suffocated by her quilting stash, police said.
Officers found the body of Annie Smith, who looked remarkably young despite her advancing age, buried under a mountainous proportion of folded fabric.
Her husband had reported her missing after he couldn

Hi Annie:
Another great podcast – imagine my surprise when you said you found that “sad clutter death” article and even composed your own obit – how funny!
Incidentally, I own a Brother PQ1500S – is that the machine you want to know more about? I can’t seem to find out about the “PQ1600S” you mentioned so wondered if perhaps you got the numbers mixed up. I searched all over your site as thought I had seen an e-mail addy for you but no luck so am posting here – please e-mail me privately for what you want to know about the machine if this is the one you mean – which by the way I love!

Thanks for another great podcast. Loved it!
Wow Annie – Another great Podcast! Thanks so much for the time & effort you put into these podcasts. I have a couple of comments, 1 – I bought the book “CREATING YOUR PERFECT QUILTING SPACE” and I just smile everytime I open it. Next comes the graph paper, so watch out.
2 – When my beloved $250 Kenmore finally decided to die, I knew I wanted a really good machine to take me into the next millenium and stretch my creativity. I asked around my guild, went to stores, but the one thing I did that sealed the deal was, I attended a local Sewing Conference and took classes that had different brands of machines in them. I had to sew projects in the classes on those machines (usually the top Pfaff, Brother, HV machines). I had to change bobbins, thread, use different settings, etc. I was able to really use the machines without spending a lot of money on the classes. I was surprised at how ridiculously hard some machines are to use!! I ended up with my Designer 1 from Husq. Viking and I love that machine. I will have it for years and just feel so much free-er using it than my old Kenmore. Funny story – one night my husband and I woke up during a fierce thunderstorm. When the power went out, we could hear my computer’s surge protector beeping and suddenly my husband throws off the covers and runs downstairs. When he came back I questioned him and he said, “The most expensive piece of equipment in this house (my new sewing machine) and you don’t have it on a surge protector!” oops. Be sure and get a really good surge protector because you don’t always remember to unplug your machine.
Thanks again annie!!

Annie, I have really enjoyed the podcasts and have finally caught up. Did you know that Alex Anderson has her own podcast now? Check it out here http://www.alexandersonquilts.com/podcast/.
Here is something you might want to pass along to your listeners. Next Tuesday I will be having surgery for the second time in the last 6 months on a thing called “trigger” digit. The last time it was the index finger on the right hand (btw, no problems there since the surgery) and this time it is the thumb on the left hand. During research I found that this is a very common thing in women between the ages 40-60. I know my was caused by crocheting (both times) because I get very OC (obsessive/compulsive) when I crochet and do it for hours and hours. Hence, the problem. Please remind you listeners to take breaks! For some reason I don’t when I crochet but I do when I quilt or piece. I have intentionally set my studio up so that I have to get up and move around to do things.
As a final note: I have put away the crochet hooks. Boohoo. I still knit and quilt tho.
Hey Annie, You left a comment on my blog earlier this week and I have been slow to respond. Sorry about that. As usual my time is limited and I am so easily distracted!! Is this the only way to contact you? Maybe I am not looking hard enough for the info. Thanks again for the fun podcasts…it really makes doing my chores a lot more interesting! best, Catherine
Hi Annie –
I got an iPod for Christmas and am new to the whole podcasting thing, but your podcast was one of the first I subscribed to (along with NPR). I enjoy your broadcast and have a suggestion. You have such wonderful information to pass along and great stories, it’s hard for me to get it all in during my workouts. So, would you consider putting the “meat” of the podcast, the quilting info, at the beginning, with your comments and stories at the end?
BTW, I homeschooled my children for three years and have the ultimate respect for you!
I live in the foothills of the Appalachians and love to walk and listen to your podcast!
