  1. Hi Annie! I recently started listening to you and I love your show. You said on this podcast that you like to hear of quilting things going on on the internet. So I thought I’d let you know about two projects that I’m involved in. There are a bunch of us on the web who are interested in nontraditional quilting — I guess you’d call it “modern quilting” ’cause it’s not quite maverick (as defined by that webring) and not quite art quilting. There are lots of knit-alongs out there, for example everyone knits pattern X or something out of book Y and posts their progress and shares ideas/problems. We just applied the same idea to quilting.

My web-friend Sarah (http://www.avenueb.org/hiptopiecesquares) has a quilt-along going on based on Denyse Schmidt’s recent book (http://www.dsquilts.com/ch_book.html). The list of participants is on the right sidebar of her blog and the archives are here: http://www.avenueb.org/hiptopiecesquares/archives/cat_denyse_schmidt_quilt_along.html. I have a quilt-along based on The Modern Quilt Workshop book by the Funquilts (http://www.funquilts.com) folks, Bill Kerr and Weeks Ringle. My archives are here: http://www.dioramarama.com/kmel/archives/modern_quilt-along/index.html. I love new participants … I can’t speak for Sarah but I think her quilt-along is ongoing and deadline-free as well.

I don’t know if there are any more internet-based quilt-alongs, but if there are, I’d like to know about them!

  2. Annie,
I meant to send you a message after your last podcast, Brother isn’t the only company to make machine specifically for quilters. When I was using a $100 Singer to try and quilt and it just didn’t want to work, my husband let me buy a Janome 6500P….it has a 9″ x 5″ harp which I love! There is also a yahoo group for the machine…a combined group for the 6500 and the new 6600. Just thought I’d mention it!

  3. Annie —

I actually put a UPS (uninterruptable power source) higher on my wishlist than a cabinet and sewing chair. Mine has a 30 minute power reserve so my sewing machine doesn’t go off. It was well worth the money, as when the power goes off in that room a loud screech gets emited by the UPS. It is always my iron and space heater going at the same time. Happens to me every winter.

I was wondering if some dedicated quilters pay to have the electrian put the iron on another power source?

Another great episode. I love how you give us a lot to think about each time.
