I’m still resting from my marathon drive and having a good time with my son Ryan and his wife, Karen.
But that didn’t stop me from visiting a quilt shop. I found this cute little place, on Highway 64 in Apex, North Carolina. It’s called Plain and Simple Quilt Shop, in an old house re-purposed into this store.
Here’s an outside shot of the store:

I hadn’t made any arrangements to speak with the store owner or to take any pictures. I will be going back there tomorrow to do both, so you will see and hear more in a future podcast!
In this episode, I speak with my kids about moving across country and ask them what they would recommend if anyone else were planning the same thing in their lives soon. They both offer some sage wisdom.
I also update you on the stash-busters drawing that is coming-up soon.

For your coast-to-coast quilt, may I suggest using state pattern blocks. For instance, Alabama Rambler and Texas Tear. Maybe you could intersperse some S.Sue in a car and connect the blocks with a highway.
Is it just me, or is there a problem downloading this podcast. I can only get the first 20 seconds. 🙁
p.s. This shop looks so cute! Can’t wait to hear all about it. Denise
Hi Annie: I am so happy you have survived the trip nearly unscathed, as a mother myself I fully understand that there isn’t anything we wouldn’t do for one of our children, even a marathon cross country trip, and wouldn’t you know it would have to be Houston were you ran into “trouble”, it’s where I live, well 20 mi north that is. We have a quilt shop in The Woodlands called “Plain and Fancy”. Too bad you didn’t get to go and visit the “Painted Pony” quilt shop in LaPorte, my gosh all I can say is that I’m thrilled I live about 50+ miles from it, as it is do die for, they even have shopping carts just like in the grocery stores just a bit smaller, so you can haul your bolts arond with you, they’ve got a different room for different kinds of fabric, a whole room just for batics, if you do this again, (hint, hint) you must stop there. I think they’ve got about 12,000 bolts of fabric, and does Texas proud in the saying “everything is bigger in Texas”. Keep enjoying your time with Ryan and Karen. Heidi, Spring, TX
Your visit has encouraged me to make my first comment. It was such a thrill to meet you today! Thank you so much for coming to our shop and letting me talk with you on your podcast.
I enjoyed the comments from the kids on moving. My DH and I have moved states several times – and never did all the research you suggest. It worked for us. Some knowledge is definitely helpful!
Oh, Annie! We did end up being in NC at the same time! We were both there for the BIG SNOW! I was in Fuquay-Varina, just south of Apex with my g-children and enjoying the snow, thinking you were already gone.
But now that I’m home and at my computer, I see you were there too! Yep. That digression caused by your Houston experience delayed you.
We really SHOULD have carpooled!
