  1. 5 years ago my father was in the ICU at the hospital with ARDS. He was in a drug induced coma for 6 months. We didn’t think he would make it. Well, he did and that started me making a huge memory quilt for he and my mother. It had 47 pictures in it including a 2in. picture of my mother as a young girl that my father had received from my grandfather and had carried in his wallet for 35 years. Took me 2 years to get it finished. I embroidered the names that my children call them – Papa and Gema and presented it to them on my father’s 70th birthday. They were so happy. He passed away suddenly 2 months later and I am so glad I got to do something special for him before he died. We never think of him without being so grateful to GOD for the 3 years that we had between the 2 illnesses. We were able to say everything we wanted to say, love on him as best we could, and say goodbye without regrets. The huge quilt still hangs to this day behind my mother’s sofa in her house with Dad’s chair next to it. That quilt means more to me than gold – Always will. I will send a picture of it if you e-mail me. Thanks for your story and if I could give you some personal advice, the first year for me was hard, the first birthday, christmas, etc. Once the anniversary of his death had come and gone – it was a little easier but not much. Give yourself a break when you think your dwelling on it too much. It is what it is and that’s ok.
I also always know that Dad went to heaven not looking back. He knew he was going to see his savior and how excited he must have been! That gives me comfort also.
Thanks for your podcasts – I look forward to them.

  2. HI Annie!
I was surfing the net to find a quilt idea for Kelly’s baby due December 27th. This is unbelievable, I just happened to click on this webpage!! Too awesome to be a conicidence. Kelly is so short and so ready to have her baby, she looks like Humpty Dumpty. Dave is excited about a new grand daughter as well. Hope you guys are all doing fine. I would love to attend one of your retreats. I just might plan for it before summer break.
    Happy Quilting
    Love Karen
