I went “over the hill” to meet my friend, Kay Mackenzie for lunch and to do a podcast update with her.
Kay’s new book, Inspired by Tradition is a sensation!
Yes, that is a CD of applique designs that you’re seeing there.
Kay shares inside info about her book, a new book that she’s currently working on and her popular blog, AllAboutApplique.net — the most comprehensive blog on Applique.
Here is Kay and me, showing off our books that we traded today.
So, for an opportunity to win a copy of Kay’s Inspired by Tradition, leave a comment below, after visiting Kay’s blog, and let me know what you enjoy about the blog.
I will choose the winner, Wednesday, April 27th (midnight).

I like the idea that the book comes with a CD to print different sizes! I’d never been to Kay’s blog before. Lots of great tips there.
I love applique. And I love that Kay is open to many methods of applique with the attitude of “not all methods work for all people” and “there is no one correct method”.
I am very excited to add this blog to my feed reader! (and for the possibility of winning this book)
Wow – her blog has everything you ever wanted to know about applique – what a great resource to go to when searching for help or info.. Her pictorial lessons are great too – as the example in the recent blog. Will be bookmarking her blog for sure for future reference – I’ll bet the book is great too!
I’ve not heard about the back basting form of appliqué. That is too cool. I wish I finished my hand work in a timely manner but I don’t. 🙂
I live in fear of applique. I have never tried it. But today’s blog entry (back-basting redux) looks intriguing. I know I need to conquer this for Annie’s Quilter’s Palette class, so while Annie’s book The Ultimate Applique Guidebook is holding one hand, this website can hold the other.
Hi Annie. Glad to have yet another podcast, I can hardly keep up – but loving it. Kays book and blog are great and I have added her blog to my reader list. I especially like the way the site is organised which makes it easy to find what you want. Also the fact it covers all tyoes of applique with photo tutorials is great. Thank you. C
I just learned about back-basting from Kay’s blog and will try it. And, I’ve added it to my blog reader. I do have another book of hers, which I won by commenting on a podcast of yours over a year ago! My current applique project is from that book, and I’m really enjoying it. Having the CD is so helpful; otherwise, I’d try to replicate the design idea in EQ7 if the size I want is different from that in a book. I’m continue to look forward to and relish your podcasts!
I have not done much applique at all. OK, I admit it….it scares me a bit. The back basting technique sounds very interesting though. Her blog is loaded with tips. Maybe after having it in my blog reader for a while my fear will go away. We can only hope:)

Her “Hawaiian” link caught my eye because I’d like to do that someday. I like her backbasting tutorial and coupled with a Hawaiian pattern, they would make a beautiful quilt that could be stitched while watching NetFlix!
Kay does have a lot of useful links for different types of applique, and I’ve bookmarked it for future reference. Also re-reading the back basting tutorial (as it looked familiar, I’m sure I read it before!)
I love that her blog has a LOT of pictures with tutorials – very appreciated!
Thanks for another podcast. I visited Kay’s blog and have added it to my reader. It sure has a multitude of information about applique and I look forward to reading it.
Annie,
Loved Kay’s interview and found a couple of great things on her blog-I MUST try back-basting!! Also was very intrigued with “Dolls & Dresses to Applique'”!

I loved Kay’s blog; it has so much info that will be great to reference. I will try back-basting for sure.
I had missed that you were back Podcasting. I checked for a long time after the first of the year and was disappointed you weren’t there so I guess its been awhile since I checked. I love your podcast and miss you when you are here. 🙂
I have never heard about her back-basting method of applique, but am excited to try it!
Would love to win her CD!!!
I read Kay’s blog regularly via google reader, and enjoy her tips and explanations. I love applique, and am open to learning new ways, as sometimes a different way may work better for a project.
Oh, My!! I have never seen Kay’s blog before. This may take me some time to investigate. I love the left column of entries on lots of different techniques. I clicked on a few and learned something new! Thanks so much for sharing this info.
Oh! The back basting photos were fantastic!!! all I have been hearing about lately is the back basting and I didn’t get it. wow! Is that COOL!!!! I am going to try that!
Thanks so much!!!!! Love the pod-casts as usual. 200 is getting close!!!
I love to follow Kays blog and see what new things she is creating. I love applique and being inspired by others.

I was most inspired by the Rose of Sharon book Kay wrote about on her blog last November. I searched for Rose of Sharon, and the archived podcast came up. There is so much on her website, and I am very much looking forward to spending more time there. Thanks for having her on your podcast.
I forgot to mention that I also ordered her new book.
