Thank you so much for making this birthday so significant. If it weren’t for YOU, listeners, I wouldn’t be podcasting.

How Technology is influencing how we Quilt:

I don’t know about you, but the Rotary Cutter saved my life as a quilter! It IS the most innovative tool that we have.

Machine quilting in all of it’s forms, has made our life easier, and gives us more time to make new quilts. It also helps us to finish our quilts quicker, as opposed to hand quilting.

Art Quilters have abounded in the last 30 years. They’ve been given permission to play AND enter their quilts in competition. This was not always the case.

The “Personal” computer. That’s what they called the first little device back in 1979 when I worked for Atari. But it was a game unit, not the one pictured above. In 1984, when we saw the first Macintosh commercial, WebGuy said “oooh (drooling) I have to get one of those!”. Almost $3000 back in the day — a king’s ransom. How would it change our lives…? Well, can YOU live without it?! I’m sure I can’t ; ) Especially after a two-hour iChat with my bud, Mark Lipinski, last week. It’s like living in George Jetson’s house!

Podcasts and blogs, how have they reached you? My former bookmarks of Blogs was unmanageable. Now I can put them into categories which I love to do. I have quilt categories, foodie category, friends, family, missionary blogs and I check into them all weekly. I still wish the LOST podcast was still around with new info. It was my favorite.

So cool, huh? One of these days, I’m gonna get me one of those. And, I’m going to design for them too!

Quilt Retreats. If you haven’t been on one, you don’t know what you’re missing and you should treat yourself to one. If you have been to one, you do know what you’re missing — and how it fills you with warm friendships, good memories and quilt inspiration. I have GOT to find a good facility for a new one…

Well, do you?

Ah, yes — the cadillac of sewing machines. (I do not own this model ; ) But I am a Bernina girl, tried and true. The answer is 3.

Online classes and

Internet TV shows.

What is NEXT??!!  I don’t know, but I’m sure we’ll find out soon!

Here is the link to Elder Robin Smith’s blog, if you’re interested. Isn’t he handsome?

Here are the guidelines for comments for this podcast blog:

Leave a comment on my blog and let me know what you have learned by listening to the podcast, even if this one is your very first one!  I also need to know if you are interested in being put in the drawing for one of the classes – because I want to make sure that the persons who win the classes are actually interested in taking it and completing it.

I will draw the lucky winners at midnight on April 12th, so you have more time to enter, thanks to the glitch with our Host Server.

Because of YOU, my listening friends, I have cause to celebrate!!

  1. I learned I need to learn more color theory. I learned that playing with colors can be fun. I learned I want to take the Fabric Choices and Quilters Palette classes from Annie! Yes, I want to be in the drawing for classes!

  2. What a great “birthday” podcast and what fun to reminisce a bit – both on technology and past podcasts. I have learned SO much through you about so many interesting people – and OH the books! I’m now a big fan of Terri Thayer, Jennifer Chiaverini and Claire O’Donohue now – and if can you believe it ,you introduced me to the “Twilight” series! Yours has also been my 1st ever online class and my QP quilt greets guests in my front hallway – and from that I learned some great techniques – esp. your applique for machine which I love. I’ve also shed tears with you – like when you arrived in SC after your cross country trek and took us along! So yes your podcast has influenced my quilting world a LOT (and you’ve even interviewed little ole’ me!)!! Thankyou!! (P.S. I already have your book , plus have taken your QP class and will be away for the other class – so you may as well NOT put me in the draw – oh well – maybe next draw!)

  3. I really enjoyed the highlights of your 6 years of pod casting and truly enjoyed the technology in quilting items you listed. I am a leftie and the rotary cutter finally allowed me to do accurate cutting both for quilting and sewing.
I began working on a MacPlus and doing 11×14″ schematics with that wonderful computer. I have a Mac and a PC and would love to pitch my PC but doing web design doesn’t really allow me to toss my PC yet.
I enjoyed all of your interviews with men quilters and always look forward to adding your latest podcast to my iPod to listen to when I walk or do errands.
I look forward to many more podcasts and thanks for sharing your family life with all of us. I feel that we could sit down anywhere and chat as if we were old friends. I also always liked hear your dog doing his thing on the podcast.

  4. I’ve learned so much! I’ve esp enjoyed the interviews you’ve done over the years. I learned about techniques, websites, and tools. Thank you! And yes, I would love to be in the drawing for the class!

  5. Annie–Happy 6th Birthday to your podcast. I look forward to each one and I appreciate your news and insights. I have learned that quilting is a wonderful adventure. I can relate to the advancement of technology and its affect on quilting. One of my first quilts was made from fortrel fabric squares cut out with scissors and a cardboard template. I also didn’t know about a 1/4 inch seam so used the 5/8 inch seam from garment making. (My kids still have both of these quilts and love them although one needs a new back as the current one is in shreds but the fortrel is as good as new!!!) I received your book for Christmas so please do not include me in your draw for that–the lucky recipient is sure in for a treat. I would love to be included in the draw for the Quilter’s Palette class as I have been trying to decide if I should register for this session and have been wanting to take one of your on line classes since you first introduced them. I hope you have many more birthdays. Thanks for the podcasts.

  6. This one’s by Errin Rissberger:

I enjoyed hearing the comments from listeners.  I hope that they will reply to your request so we can hear what they are up to these days.  But I loved your timeline of how far we have come with upgrades and technology.  Keep up the great work.  I love listening to your podcast!  I can’t wait to hear about what you will review next.
    Thanks again,

  7. Annie, i have to admit i can´t remember a single, outstanding thing i learned from your podcasts. However, and even bigger, i learned so much about all the different kind of quilters you visited, about hospitality, passion, friendship and the most amazing fabric stores (which i want to visit so bad 🙂
thanks for all your wonderful podcasts, i usually sew while i am listening to them and that is so cool!
so glad to have you back and i can´t wait for all those great episodes that are yet to come.
again: thanks so much for all your effort, it is well noted and honored!!
    love, Claudia

  8. Happy 6th Birthday to Quilting Stash Podcast!!

What I learned from listening to your podcast is that we, quilters in general, have so much in common. I can find something in common with a master quilter when I enter into a quilt competition and I can be fustrated with a new applique technique just like a beginner quilter. I’m neither a seasoned quilter or a new quilter, both I know that I can fit right in with both groups.

Please enter me into the drawing for your new book. I have too many quilts to work on that it would be impractical to take a class right now.

And I’m so glad to have you back, Annie!

  9. Wow Annie!! What a treat to have several podcasts in a row. You are still my favorite podcaster- and not just because we have met.You always manage to say things that really touch me at the right moments. All your years of experience and wisdom really do shine through. I am looking forward to checking out 12×12 and Lyrics book. I am working on a new art quilt for Vermont Quilt Festival and really listening to my quilt. It’s so true, it you don’t -you may regret it! Noah is almost finished his EFC top. Pictures soon.
    Happy Birthday!!!

  10. Annie, I have been an avid listener for the past year and have caught up with all the past podcasts. I listen to them at work and it makes my day much better. I have been quilting for sometime, I would say I am an intermediate quilter at this point. Working 40 hours a week and quilting by my “hobby” I don’t seem to get allot done. What I have learned is that quilters have a great sense of community. My goal is once my dear husband lets me buy a long arm, (still working on him, LOL) will be to do charity quilts. I work for the University of North Carolina Hospitals and hope to make quilts for the Children’s hospital, that is my goal anyway. Until then, I am making my dear son and future daughter-in-law a wedding quilt…. Thank you for all you do. Please enter me in both drawings. Thanks again, Rhonda in NC

  11. Happy Birthday to your podcast, Annie!! I agree with Claire, what a treat to have you back podcasting so frequently! I think I started listening to the podcast about 2 years ago, and enjoy it so much – I especially love the interviews. I have gotten to know about so many quilters through you. Thanks to your interview with her, I was “introduced” to Laura Wasilowski and the Chicago School of Fusing, which prompted me to take Laura’s workshop at last year’s Festival of Quilts in Birmingham, UK – I don’t think I’ve ever taken a class where I laughed so much before!! I would love to win either your book, or a place in the QP class – although I’ve been quilting about 6 years now, co-own a quilt shop and have recently started teaching myself, I think there is probably still a lot I can learn! Looking forward to many more podcasts from you!

  12. I’m so glad to see you back to the podcast _ I missed you! I’ve been listening for about 2 years now, so many great things I’ve learned. The best things that I like are tips like storing thread in the hotwheels box and new products and gadgets. We quilters love our gizmos. I’m into art quilts so I really liked the 12 by 12 book you just reviewed – and my birthday is april 9th – just like your podcast! keep up the good work annie – I look forward to every podcast that you do – thank you!

  13. Happy Birthday!

Annie, Thank you for the podcast. Your topics are wonderful. I hadn’t realized that there was so much to learn about quilting.

  14. Rhonda– did you know that I’m coming to Thimble Pleasures to teach in July? I am! We’re going to do Exploring Fabric Choices on July 30-31. I have to come and see my little peanut every now and then. I’ll be back in November for TWO months. I can hardly wait!
