Quilters! I found an interview for the podcast that I thought was lost!! I interviewed Helen Conway and Diane Perin Hock at Pacific International Quilt Festival last October just before I left for Quilt Market. I am OVERJOYED to have found this interview, so I can share it with you!

Unfortunately, the pictures we took the day of the interview are gone with the wind, as they say – but you’ll find some great pictures of Diane and Helen and their quilts on the following links:

Helen Conway’s website

Helen’s blog

Diane’s blog

And, in keeping with the Give-Away-A-Day theme, here’s today’s Give-Away:

So don’t forget to leave a comment, and please – when you leave a comment, please comment about the podcast/blog content, not simply that you’d love to win. I want your feedback ; )

  1. Congrats. on recovering some of what you thought you had “lost”! Great interviews – very interesting to hear how people started quilting and how their craft evolves. Btw – after no podcasts for a bit, now one almost every other day – I can barely keep up – lol – don’t stop – they’re wonderful!

  2. Thanks Annie, I really like interviews. It’s wonderful to hear from all different kinds of quilters. It’s too bad about the lost of all your pictures & special e-mails. Soooo glad you are podcasting more often again! And thanks for offering this giveaway

  3. Nice interview ladies! And now we can add that in addition to being at Midsommer Quilting and then Festival of Quilts in Birmingham, England, our quilts will also be shown at Quilt Festival in Houston, USA! (Annie, no need to put me in a drawing for the book — I’ve already got one!)

  4. Sorry, I am downloading your podcast so I can burn it to disc to listen to it on the road trip I am planning today. Going to quilt shops fifty miles from home… Saving your podcast for the drive.

I have always liked listening to your interviews .. your knowledge base is awesome. I have reviewed your TQS show a number of times becasuse I found the information to be so helpful.

Future podcast you might want to explore…. THE NEW MODERN QUILT GUILDS that are poping up all over the country. Young woman coming to gether to learn how to quilt but with a different sense of style and senciblity. Their projects are different, their colors are different, their patterns and the way they are learning to quilt is different… yes they are forming their own guilds but they are also learning form the internet.

  5. I”ve followed Helen’s blog almost since she started blogging and thus was drawn into following the 12×12 group from the time they started. I’ve followed the toerhs’ blots as well over the years and bought the book immediatel and love it.

I listened to your pod cast just now especially to hear Helen speaking because I feel I know her [better than any of the others] and Iwas delighted by the whole pod cast. Thanks for doing it and for the interview — I discovered you via the 12×12 site just now.

  6. Hi Annie — HAPPY BIRTHDAY to your podcast!! I think I read your home page correctly and your podcast is now 6 years old! Congratulations!

  7. Annie, so good to see you back podcasting!! I have followed your technique on making the heart blocks and they turn out so awesome, I love them also. to see your design below with the embroidery it is awesome. Think Spring!!

  8. Thank you for the interesting interview. I find it amazing that even these ladies whom we all so admire admit to needing to find validation! (ie – My sketchbooks must be okay because an artist I admire works in the same way) I do so love the way social groups can be formed through the internet and how it has become such a wonderful way to share and communicate! Of course, I would be thrilled to win this book – it is definitely on my must have list.

  9. Hi Annie! I am so thrill to be listening to your podcasts again. I just wanted to comment on the price of quilting fabrics. I haven’t seen the $14/yd yet, but I do think it will cause us to think very carefully before we purchase. I know I will be shopping from my stash a lot! I am also looking for alternative fabrics at thrift shops, garage sales, etc. It appeals to my wallet and my passion for re-purposing, too.

  10. Annie I am so glad that you are back to the podcasts! And recovering a lost interview is like finding a lost coin.
    Thanks for sharing.

  11. Hi again Annie. I am so happy your are back in front of the mic. I love listening to all the interviews you do. Hearing from quilters of all persuasions is fascinating because I never know what is going to spark my imagination. I agree with Nonnie, I’d like to hear more from modern quilters. I find their work as intriguing as traditional quilters.

I also love hearing ways to use up the ol’ stash. I am trying to embrace your philosophy of not putting the scraps back into the stash and so I am in the process of deciding what design I want to use for new pillows for my family room sofa and how can I get a second quilt out of the scraps left from my last completion.

Thanks for an opportunity to win this book. I also added the 12×12 quilters to my blog reader. Yippee!!! More inspiration.

  12. I love your interviews!
Also love hearing all the Smith news and the places you visit-wether quilt shops or good places to eat when you are traveling! I do love to hear what you are working on too! You may be the first podcast for quilters but you are also the best Annie! Your joy for quilting comes thru loud and clear!

  13. Wow! I am here from Diane’s blog and how I missed your wonderful site, I don’t know! I am downloading the podcast to listen to as I work in the yard. I will be back to explore some more. Thank you for this wonderful place of knowledge!

  14. Don’t put me in the mix for the book – just wanted to thank you for the lovely comments. My sister, who is not a quilter, said it was a great coffee table book!

  15. I really enjoyed this interview! I love to hear about what inspires quilters, and this group of 12 women really inspire each other with their challenges. I laughed because I was fussy cutting precise kite-shaped pieces for a feathered star while Helen was talking about not having her points match. But I enjoy all kinds of quilting, and sew traditional patterns as “comfort” work, while also trying to put my own ideas into quilted form. I have been keeping a notebook, and I hope to make those ideas into quilt someday. I will add the blogs of these artists to my blog reader. Thank you for sharing them!

  16. Thank you, Margaret! I’m so glad that the fun we had showed through in the interview. I love interviewing for that reason — such talented quilters, and so much fun!!

  17. Annie, I’m glad to be listening to your podcasts again. I missed you! The 12 by Twelve interview was so interesting and THEN I looked at their website! I have been glued to my computer as I looked at the quilts made by the group. So amazing, I just can’t get enough! I’m so glad you found this interview and shared this with us!
