Here are the great shops that I found on the next leg of my trip:
Las Cruces, NM – Organ Mountain Quilt Shop

Mark Lipinski’s Califon fabric — great quilt, huh?
Seventh Heaven Quilt Shop, San Antonio, TX

Wonderful Dixie, in front of a wonderful quilt

The hallway, which takes you to additional rooms, and the classroom. This shop is Texas-style huge!
the baby room
the “country commandments” quilt

The Moda Texas Hankie quilt hangs over the fireplace in the foyer of the store.
with Tracy, outside of the Alamo
San Antonio architecture — inspiration for applique!
Hard Rock Cafe rail at the RiverWalk
Riverwalk mosaic
The river at Riverwalk, where you can take a boat ride… reminds me of the French Quarter area at Disneyland ; )
Gorgeous San Antonio architecture!
Tracy’s mom’s bed, where I stayed.. look familiar? It’s Amy Butler bedding! Tracy says that she wouldn’t make a quilt for her mom because her mom asked her to make her a quilt that she can take on a picnic — I’m with you, Tracy!
Tracy Ward’s website and blog
For Tracy’s pattern giveaway – visit Tracy’s blog, leave a comment, and Tracy will do a drawing for one of each of her 4 fabulous patterns! Winners to be drawn on Feb. 4th.
Creative Sewing Center of San Antonio, just down the street from Tracy’s home.

Terri Soll, Creative Sewing Center owner, models her own creative outfit. Her pants are embroidered and her Kimono-style jacket is embroidered on top of the seams — beautiful!
the Sewing Machine area
the Texas Round-up fabrics
Quilt n Sew Studio – Katy, TX
Quilt-n-Sew staff — Owner, Terry is on the right
the batik nook at the shop
The Smocking area — if you need supplies, this is where you can get them.
The Paper Doll quilt — just one of the beautiful samples at Quilt-n-Sew. Isn’t this precious?
Jill and Logan’s Sunflower Quilt Shop – Houston, TX
Sunflower Quilt Shop, displaying the blocks made for Ovarian Cancer quilt auction that they collect during the year. All of the money made goes to Ovarian Cancer research at M.D. Anderson Health center.
Another view of the blocks — mind-blowing.
Here is my sweet friend, Pat, with a fresh stack of blocks that haven’t been hung yet.
Pat’s mom, Jean — showing off her crocheted table mats. Jean makes these for the shop from the strip remnants. Isn’t that a great use of leftovers?
Sunflower’s entryway, with a turquoise quilt and fabric for Ovarian Cancer quilts.
That’s it for now — but stay tuned til tomorrow!

Oh Annie! Your interviews have been great. I am very nervous about hearing myself and wondering what ridiculous things I said. It still seems surreal to me that you happened in and made my evening so exciting!
Thanks so much for publishing photos from QuiltnSew in Katy TX. That is where I learned to quilt in 1998. A wonderful group of friendly helpful ladies and Terri is the best!! We moved to CT in 2004 — miss you guys!!
Annie,
I’m catching up on your trip and so enjoy listening to the interviews and hearing the details of the trip. That was a huge undertaking on your part. Thank you for doing this and sharing!
Celine
Happy, Happy , Happy Birthday Annie! I hope your day is filled with all the things you love and enjoy – Family, good food and quilting! I have enjoyed following your trip-casts so much – even the emotional parts – think it is the 1st time I’ve ever shed a wee tear listening to a podcast! Glad it was a safe and fun trip. Best regards, Pat
thank you so much, Celine — you are a sweetheart! I’m looking forward to seeing you at Spring Market. I want to do a podcast with you!
Thank you Pat! I hope to get to your neck of the woods some time so we can meet.
Annie, your daily podcasts are a real treat. They are so much fun! Thank you so much for working so hard for our ‘quilting pleasure’.
Oh, and, Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday Annie!! You have had quite a start to this new year. Thanks for taking us all along on your trip. It was very educational (and fun). I have to correct you on one thing, though. While Texas IS a very large state… ALASKA is the biggest state in the Union! Yes, Alaska has been a state for 50 years now, and we are 5 times the size of Texas. Oh, and if you like snow, this is definitely the place to be. We usually have it for at least 6 months of the year (longer in some places!). Come see the 49th state sometime… we’d love to have you!!
Happy XX Birthday! Those TX ladies in your podcast sure seem sweet. Now, would you please explain the $5 quilt? Do we something similar in the Bay Area?
Hi Annie: I am a regular, devoted listener from San Antonio, TX and thanks for your interview of Dixie, the Seventh Heaven shop owner! That is a great store, isn’t it!! I am really hoping someone takes it over when she retires soon b/c I don’t know what I’d do without that store. And that was very interesting to hear about Tracy Ward and her pattern designs. I am sorry I missed you coming through town; my iPod broke and by the time I replaced it you had already been through town!! Anyway, sounds like Tracy sure was a great host. Regards, Ann
