Greetings Quilters from Los Angeles! It’s day TWO of my trip and today I headed-off down the California coast. On my way, I stopped in at The Creation Station in Buellton, California. I had such a good time looking through all of their $6.00-per-yard fabric and talking to the store owner, Dawn Farrier, that I immediately fell behind schedule moving on to my next stop — just up the road — in Solvang, California.
I finally rolled into Burbank and downtown Los Angeles right in the middle of rush hour traffic. When isn’t there traffic in LA? I was a little late getting to Gina Halladay’s shop but I did get the grand tour of Gina’s store, Cranberry Quiltworks, and Threaded Pear Studio. I musn’t forget Gina also writes the ever popular blog QuiltersBuzz, which you MUST visit.
Gina is such a down-home gal. Everyone in the business knows her as a real go-getter and when Gina comes home, she doesn’t stop. She’s usually picking-up kids from or dropping-off kids to various activities. Tonight she went to her son’s church basketball game and I tagged right along. It’s so fun to get to know these wonderful people in such a non-work setting!
Tomorrow, I’m traveling to Tucson, Arizona where I will get a chance to visit Beth Hawkins of LizzieBCreative. That’s going to be another stop that will be hard for me to break away from and continue my journey.
I have my hands full doing all of my own driving, taking pictures, doing podcasts, etc. What with everything I want to accomplish and do on this huge trip — I just remembered that my phone has a built-in camera and I can send pictures to Webguy and include them in these updates. I’m hoping that maybe tomorrow, I will start send us more pictures.
Please continue to send comments and ideas for things to do and places to see along her way. Check the map a few posts below this one to see her travel route. You guys are doing really well providing comments so far. Keep it going. Show me your support. I feed on it!

Hey Annie! I hope you have a very safe trip. We made the trip from Oregon to Texas (Houston area) 2 years ago—and I wanted to let you know, we saw more deer around Ozona than I have EVER seen in my life. We saw at least 7 that were killed, and would see packs of them huddled by the side of the road. I know it is hunting season, but it was one of the weirdest things I have ever seen–so if you are driving after dark in that area PLEASE be careful and alert.
When we used to live in San Antonio I would go to Seventh Heaven Quilt Shoppe and loved it. I bought my favorite shoes (yes, shoes!) there and still get compliments on them. We had thought about going to SA that weekend, but are unable to, and now I’m sad I’m missing meeting you! Have a great time at the Alamo, and on your trip. You are a brave woman and I hope you make many memories 🙂
Be sure to visit Seventh Heaven Quilt Shop in San Antonio–I did some serious damage there & had to be really creative in packing all that fabric in my suitcases to fly home! There was a really good steak place not too far from there and the quilt shop can give you directions. As my Dad always said, “remember the Alamo!”. Hope you’ll get time to see it. (You can tell I’m a Texan by birth!)

Hi Annie,
Say “hi” to Beth for me and be sure she takes you to Quilters Market in Tucson. It’s MY favorite quilt shop in Tucson. And, maybe a meal at El Charro or Cafe Poca Cosa…
I’ve made the Hwy 10 trip from California to San Antonio a few times. Give yourself extra time .. especially if you plan to visit shops and people along the way.
This sounds like a real FUN trip. I’m sure your son and daughter-in-law appreciate the sacrafice your making for them …. hee hee.
Safe travels,
Phyllis in Sonoma
Hey, Annie, here’s information from my coworker in San Antonio (now WebGuy doesn’t have to read your email): “Have her call the shop ‘Sew Special Quilts’ (Bernina sewing machine dealer located at 24165 W IH-10 #421, San Antonio, 210-698-6076), because they teach classes and would know just about every quilter in the area. In fact, they might even know her blog! They also have a shop in Boerne (pronounced “Bur-knee”), which is on I-10 on her way towards San Antonio, but I think the shop itself is about 7 miles off the nterstate, so she would need a GPS.”
Drive and shop carefully!
Hello Annie and WebGuy! What an exciting road trip! I’m near Chattanooga, TN, way off your path but should you get off track, I have an extra bedroom and would love, love, love to show you our local quilt shops.
You mentioned Mary Jo’s near Charlotte, NC — DON’T miss it! I was so blown away I couldn’t buy anything the first day. Second day…Oh Yeah! I recovered quickly!
Have fun and be safe. I’m loving the road-casts and WebGuy’s input, too.
Hope we can meet some day.
Gayle
P.S. Finally decided that I will take your stash challenge and will submit those thoughts this weekend.
Wow, what a fun trip! Stay safe and have fun Annie!
And thanks for sharing your trip with us via Podcast!

You are going to Apex! My daughter lives in Fuquay-Varina which is about 10-15 miles away! Maybe we should have car-pooled!
I’m going there next weekend to baby-sit!
