I Dream of …Quilting?

I bet you thought I was going to say “Jeannie” ; ) Naw, I don’t even know any Jeannies anymore, or even Genie’s and I don’t believe in them anyway. Although, I DO believe in the Quilt Fairy — don’t you?

I dream of Quilting. I dream of quilting in full color. I go to sleep at night thinking of quilts and I wake up in the morning thinking about quilts.

I’m currently working on the design of a wedding quilt for my son who is getting married in November. I have to find “the” focus fabric — I know which one I want but it’s no longer available locally, so I am resorting to the Internet. My pickings, or findings, are slim because it has been so popular. It is the perfect fabric for a color palette and my future daughter-in-law loves that fabric best, so you know the rest of the story — no substitutions will do.

I’m looking for Andover’s “Ribbons and Roses” large floral in the cream background:

I used that fabric for the Prairie Flower class sample:

and for the 50th Anniversary quilt:

Maybe that’s why Karen likes it so much. She saw me using it a lot. It really is the perfect focus fabric though. So on goes my search.

So have you realized yet that I only have 2 1/2 months to make this quilt and I haven’t started yet? Yep, I really still am in the design stages. I found the perfect block “Steps to the Temple” for the center of the quilt in a House of White Birches book, “365 Fun-to-Stitch Quilt Blocks”. I like putting significant symbolism in quilts that I make for people, and since they will be married in the temple, that block is perfect to have in the center of the quilt. I will make the quilt in medallion style, with several pieced borders surrounding the center.

Today I will draft the temple block in the size that I need it and will pick the additional border blocks.

First, I have to go to a production meeting for Quilting Stash and plan the upcoming quarter programming.

My days are filled with quilting, and quilt-type activities. I guess that’s why I dream about quilting.

And oh, P. S. Yes, I will have the quilt finished in time for the reception in November even though I haven’t started it yet. It will be a Queen size — hey, at least it’s not a California King!!
