Housekeeping

Sorry for late blog post today but I have been taking care of business. Precisely, housekeeping in my studio.

Needing to pack for my trip to

tomorrow…

Lots and lots and lots to do… like:

and

and

and

but I had help…

Here is Kirsten in all her loveliness — you haven’t seen her for awhile!

Oh my aching back and feet and …

well, enough of sympathy mongering…

Here’s a fun picture that I haven’t shown you yet —

My Ivar Stash cabinet, filled to the brim. Can I tell you how much I love having my stash all put away and organized so I can shop in it when I want? I do!

Ok , my friends, I have to finish packing so I can get on the train in the early a.m.  Did I tell you that there is NO WiFi on this particular train?!  Hey, this is the 21st Century for PEET’s Sake! Get with it! So I’m going to be without the internet for 16 whole hours. What ever am I going to do??

WebGuy came to my rescue and loaded books and podcasts and movies onto this lovely little device:

which will save my sanity. My best friend on this trip.

Oh — before I forget, I need to leave you with a little parting gift until tomorrow when there will be an all new podcast for you… what will I do…?

How about since I’m going to Utah, I will give you an opportunity to win something from a real Utahn. How ’bout…

something from this pretty, talented and crafty lady?

How about her new book?

It’s a great book with gifts for all ages, with nice personal stories from Marie about growing up, time spent with her Mother – who taught her how to sew and embroider, the memory quilt she made with her mother’s treasures (the only things that survived her house fire) and things she’s made for her children. Tradition. That’s what Marie is all about and she does it in a pretty clever way.

For a chance to win Marie’s book, leave me a comment and tell me any memories that you have of Marie Osmond, performing, as a teenager, etc. Be specific and creative.

I will draw the winner on Sunday night, May 1st at midnight, when I finally wake up from my travel coma.

Get ready for a Utah lalapalooza of podcasts, special guests, great Give-Aways and tons of fun. There will be something new everyday beginning on Monday, so you better keep up with me!

Toot, toot — All Aboard!!

  1. I actually don’t remember the Donnie and Marie show. I am told that I used to watch it often and that I liked it a lot. I vaguely remember big white wireless microphones and sparkly bellbottom jumpsuits, but that could just be an old Barbie outfit.

What I DO remember about Donnie and Marie is my Donnie and Marie Colorforms! Boy did I love that colorforms set. It was better than my Holly Hobby colorforms because I had lost a lot of the pieces to my Holly Hobby Set, but my Donnie and Marie colorforms set was nearly complete (I think I was missing one of Marie’s shoes or something).

  2. Since I won already, just leaving a comment. When we first got married, we got an old tv from my grandfather, and it only had one station, so the Donny and Marie show was something I watched, lol.

I hope you have a wonderful trip and take lots of photos.

    Debbie

  3. I remember watching the Donny and Marie show on tv. One of her brothers married a girl from my hometown. Big hoopla…I was told by my yw leader that I needed to be like Marie when I grew up :(. She has had many trials and I’m glad that I’m like me not Marie

  4. Just want to say thank you Annie. I’m loving listening to you again, it is so nice to be plentiful with podcasts on my ipod and iphone now. Would love to have a chance to win a prize. Will just keep trying. Best wishes Vanessa (Aust)

  5. Hi Annie – just discovered your podcast and I really enjoy it – trying to catch up on all the past podcasts! Had to leave a comment about Donny and Marie – I’m pretty old and I have lived in Las Vegas my entire life. I remember going to see the Osmonds at Caesars Palace in the early 70’s – back when there were two shows a night, first one was a dinner show where you got a prime rib dinner AND the show for just $14.99! (Told you I’m old!) At the time, Marie just had a walk on in the show, but you could tell she was going to be a great performer! For a long time I tried to meet them, hanging out at the hotels hoping to run into them, and then, years later, I worked in a hotel where they appeared. I talked with Jay Osmond on the phone and told him of all the years I tried to meet them. The next day was my day off and I was surprised when one of my coworkers called me at home and said Jay Osmond wanted to talk to me! He invited me to the show that night and told me to come backstage after to meet the family! Even though I had gotten over my “Osmond-mania” it was still a huge thrill for me! They are all incredibly warm people – I still enjoy listening to their music and have it on my iPod!

  6. Like many others, my memories of watching the Donnie and Marie show are only vague. I know I watched it a lot, but no particular memories stand out.

What does stand out in my mind are memories of our travels in Utah several years ago. We covered a lot of the state and I fell in love with it. The thing that struck me most was that the scenery could change so dramatically. I can’t wait til our next trip there. Enjoy Annie!

  7. I loved their show – the music, the comedy, costumes, etc. Wasn’t every girl our age secretly in love with Donnie back then plus wanted to look like Marie?! I loved their skits too in that Marie supposedly always got the “best” of Donnie in their jokes. It was always special too when all the brothers appeared together with them. No shows on tv today can compare – sad!

Looking forward to your “Utah lalapalooza” – have a safe trip and a great time!

  8. I remember Donny and Marie because my good friend Lisa LOVED Donny. I walked into her bedroom for the first time and three walls were coated from floor to ceiling with pictures of Donny and his brothers. I couldn’t believe it! |She had very few Marie pictures, but she had one on the fourth wall, which is where she looked when she was getting dressed. I remember thinking my Mother would never let me do anything like that, but I also realized that I’d never want that many eyes looking at me! I was always a little creeped out being in that room.

When I saw Donny and Marie in the opening cermonies of the Winter Olympics (2002 in Salt Lake City) it brought many good memories of my friend and all those creepy eyes.

Years later I bought a bernina 630 with the embroidery unit and found Marie was doing some free standing lace software. I didn’t buy it when I was visiting the|States, but should have because I haven’t found it here in Canada. Maybe I’ll have to do that next time I’m there!

Thanks for bring back those memories. Have a great trip.

  9. First (and only) time I saw Marie Osmond was in a restaurant at the top of a mountain – can’t remember if it was CA or CO – on a ski trip many, may years ago. I remember her as being a very petite woman and cute as a bug’s ear. I remember her being very sweet to all her fans also, when all she wanted to do was get some lunch. Good times.

  10. I had a crush on her brother Donnie as a kid – does that count? I’ve seen her on oprah and she seems like a sweet person. How does she find the time to make things though?

  11. “I’m a little bit country… and I’m a little bit rock and roll.”

I watched that show all the time, despite it being a little bit corny for the high school crowd. I had a crush on Donny (who is the same age as me – why didn’t he call me up??), and I loved Marie’s spunk and voice.

I also remember her song “Paper Roses”. I still remember most of the words.

Marie has been through so much heartache and loss in her life lately. I hope she is doing OK.

  12. I am about the same age as Marie so I remember her growing up and performing! What I remember (and admire) most, is how she has faced all life has brought her with such courage! Being raised in the spotlight is hard enough, but surviving is another. I just wish I could spend a day with her and talk about dolls, sewing, family, weight loss, entertaining and living with depression. That would be a treat!

  13. I think since we are near the same age, I have always related to her, esp. her struggles, post partum depression, weight gain, having brothers that pester you but you love to death (I am the only girl – 3 brothers). I have always felt like we’d be good friends. stupid I know…

  14. Was the winner of the Marie Osmond book announced? I don’t see it anywhere.

  15. Yes! I announced it on the podcast with Valerie, telling her funny story about her brush with the Osmonds.

Ironically enough, it’s YOU Laura!!! Send me your address!
