  1. Thank you so much for mentioning my blog in this podcast. A friend told me about it, and I am looking forward to listening to more of your podcasts!

  2. Just to clarify…my blog Moving Hands is just a blog, not a podcast. I am not in any webrings or round robins, but some online quilting friends have joined into a Dear Jane quilt-along at Flickr. That group name is Dear Jane Project. My list of links in my Blogroll are for some of the people who are working on Dear Jane blocks/quilts, or have already made one. I live in Tokyo.

  3. I think you are being somewhat starry eyed about Round Robins – I have done two on-line, and about four with my local group, and every time there were unhappy people. Typical complaints are smokers leaving odor in fabric, getting something back you don’t like, even getting back unusable components because instructions or seam allowances were not followed. I think you can get a lot out of them, but it is a big gamble, and you have to be prepared for both good and bad surprises.

  4. Thank you, Sharon.

Yes, there is that gamble as fellow quilters just don’t follow instructions, but I have been very lucky to work with groups who are excellent quilters. I have heard horror stories, so it is a good idea to proceed with caution, but still proceed. Life itself is a gamble and I think you said it best:

“I think you can get a lot out of them, but it is a big gamble, and you have to be prepared for both good and bad surprises.”

  5. I am really grateful for Sharon’s comment, because it has really made me think — I left out a huge component about Round Robins!!

So in the next show, I will offer do’s and don’ts about joining and starting a group, what works and what doesn’t — including a mistake that I made with my Round Robin group’s quilts.
