I Know – I Owe You A Show

Hi Everyone! Apologies for not getting you a fresh Quilting Stash show this week. I’m feverishly finishing my patterns to get them ready for PIQF here in Santa Clara, CA. I’m also finishing a new quilt that will be on display at the show.

I promise to have a new show posted by the weekend.

In the meantime, please take a look down the righthand side of the page. I’ve placed links to interviews with some special friends of mine I’ve interviewed in past shows. If you are new to Quilting Stash, give them a listen! The quality of the shows vary (I was a greenie podcaster then) – but they are worth hearing.

Also, there is a new poll listed on this page. Click Here to see it.

Happy Quilting!

Quilting Stash – Program 63, or What I Did On My Summer Vacation

podcastRunning time: 1:00:36 Size: 27.77MB

Rather than give you another travelogue through Utah’s quilt shops and events in the northern part of the state; I share my treasure chest of cool quilt findings with you.

My friend Karen and I had the opportunity of having lunch with Barbara Jones of QuiltSoup patterns. I talk about the conversation with Barbara, as she shared her inspirations, ideas and philosophies on quilting with us. Barbara is a gifted quilter and designer, and meeting her was a highlight of the trip.

Here are the patterns that Barbara gave us — totally perfect for our tastes and fabric stashes:

Mine

and Karen’s.

Just perfect! You can order patterns directly from Barbara by visiting her website at QuiltSoup.com.

Coincidentally, you can read more about Barbara in an interview done by Sylvia Landman, by visiting Sylvia’s website at Sylvia’s Studio.

Karen and I also dropped by to visit her friend, Judy Barton who was busy opening a great antique store in Kaysville, which just so happened to turn out to be a historical home where my family stayed more than ten years ago — what a trip! We stopped by to say ‘hi’ and see this fabulous Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt that Judy acquired for her shop, “The Copper Frog”. Here is a picture of the quilt:

Although all of the designers’ patterns aren’t available by website, I have added the links for those who do have websites, and contact information for those who don’t have websites. In all cases, you can order patterns, books, and color brochures from the designers directly.

Jodi G. Warner’s "Always and Forever" Wedding Quilt on display at Mormon Handicraft in Salt Lake City.

You can order patterns directly from Jodi by visiting her website at Hearth Sewn Patterns.

Muriel Anderson’s delightful embroideries can be found at Material Girls Quilt shop in South Jordan, UT or directly from Muriel at 801-255-6465.

I found a great magazine that I have never seen before — QuiltMania Patchwork from Canada.

Ream’s grocery stores and cowboy outfitters in Utah. I can’t wait to go back and visit that store to get myself a bee-autiful pair of boots.

Ok, so what do cowboy boots have to do with quilts…? Uh… well, not much but you can use your imagination. One last thing: The shops in Utah are taking full advantage of the beautifully hand-dyed rickracks and laces that Moda has to offer. Every store I went in had samples made in various ways with the trim embellishment. Here is what I came home with:

Look closely at the two reds — different dye lots — so make sure that you get the right amount when getting it at your local quilt shop. FYI each card spool holds 50 yards. When I buy it, I get a minimum of 15 yards. I never know where I’ll be using it <<grin>> Phew! I love being immersed in beatiful quilts and have the opportunity to speak with talented quilters – I hope you enjoy the podcast! There’s more where this came from!

Quilting Stash – Program #61

podcastRunning time: 35:57 Size: 16.48MB

In which I introduce the show as program number 60. I forgot I phoned-in a show while I was on vacation.

Please bear with me about the pictures for this one: I’ve got to pack for the retreat this weekend, so I won’t have all the pictures loaded til I get back, as they all have to be processed thru Photoshop and 26 Things have to be uploaded to a scrapbook in Flickr — beleive me, they’re worth the wait!

I found the new Issue of Quilters

Checking in and checking out…

…why, quilt shops, of course!

I’m checking in today to let you know that I am officially on vacation and being pulled away to interesting locations by my family. No time to do a podcast here. The remote call-in that I did sounds so bad that I decided not to do any more — sorry!

Here’s a tidbit of info to recap last week:
I spent five days checking out 11 quilt shops and talking to all kinds of quilters — I loved every minute of it. I have collected books, patterns, fabric and all kinds of pictures and info to share with you when I return next week. I’m so excited about the things that I’ve found – and have even added block designs to my “Household Flowers” wool quilt.

There is so much to share with you — including an interview from a lunch spent with Barbara Jones of Quilt Soup.

I’ll be back on Wednesday, August 16th with a brand new show – so stay tuned, and in the meantime, Happy Quilting!!

Program 60 – On the Road (Again)

podcastRunning time: 6:12 Size: 3.2MB

This week I’m on the road in Utah. Dropping my son Robin off at a summer camp at Brigham Young University and am teaching at Corn Wagon Quilts in Springville, Utah.

I also met one of my favorite contemporary artists Eric Dowdle at a local mall in Orem.

There’s much more packed in just a few minutes of showtime today. Forgive me, but I literally phoned-in my podcast today to my husband who took the sound and posted it online. Apologies for the lower-quality sound.

Thanks for all of your support. You made the month of July – which is typically a slow month for radio, TV, and Podcasting into a proportionate success!

Remember, if you like what you are hearing, please send us feedback via email, voicemail and… don’t forget the tip jar! We’re doing all of this without pay and currently without advertising!

Happy Quilting!
