Just before Market, I had the opportunity to go and visit my dear friend, Karen, who always takes care of me and is my partner in crime at the Utah Quilt shops. I walked thru the front door of Quilt Etc. in Sandy, Utah and what did I see?

Ok, so does this quilt send you into orbit, or what?!

I just went nuts. I had never seen a quilt quite so charming with little creative details and I had not heard of Cori Blunt or Chitter Chatter Designs before. It seems that Cori and her over-the-top mind-blowing quilt designs was a well kept secret in the state of Utah.

No More!

I had to have that pattern and this one:

This one is Cherry Tweet (Queen size) and the one above it is Very Cherry (wallhanging). Don’t you think Cherry Tweet would be a great wedding quilt?

Ok, here’s what I think of Cori Blunt: unbelievably, mind-blowingly talented! Her applique and design work reminds me of the Disney Animation brain-trust. Can you tell that I was mightily impressed by Cori and her quilts?

So not only is she an amazing quilter – she’s a savvy Mom of five kinders and sweet! You’ll find out more about Cori when you listen to the podcast.

Luckily, I was able to meet her at Market, when she had her very first booth:

and here is a quilt that she made of her daughters. No surprise that I love this one too!

What a great way to create a portrait quilt of your children or grandchildren!

Ok, so Cori is also extremely generous…. here’s the giveaway:

There is a giveaway here on my site and one on Cori’s too.

Here are the details: (please READ, don’t SCAN )

Listen to the podcast, then go and visit Cori’s website ChitterChatter Designs and her blog Creativity Among Chaos. Leave a comment for Cori on her blog and then come back to here and leave a comment for me – and tell me what you think is amazing about Cori’s talent.

This is a perfect giveaway for someone who loves applique, hand or my machine method. Which one do you like best?

I will choose the winner on Tuesday night, July 26th and announce on my blog the next day. The winner will have 48 hours to email their mailing address to me. A new winner will be announced if I don’t hear from the winner in time allowed.

I really think you’ll enjoy finding out more about Cori and Chitter Chatter Designs. Enjoy!

  1. Wow how beautiful!!! What amazing work! Thanks for sharing this beautiful picture. Annie, I sent you an email, and have not heard back. Hope all is well. Still waiting on the book 🙂

  2. I’m an Aussie who has been following Cori for awhile now, her work is absolutely stunning and is so unique. I’ve made her Baby Buggies quilt and her applique method for creating the body shapes was so clever. I especially love her little blue birds, they are so cute and remind me of the little birds in Walt Disney’s Cinderella dressing her in her beautiful gown! Cori’s attention to detail is what I find amazing, nothing is left out of her designs.
    Cheers
    Jo

  3. I prefer applique by hand. I find it a peaceful passtime. Wow what wonderful designs.. Whoever wins will be truly blessed.

  4. I’ve been following her amazing talent for a while. I love that he applique is so detailed and so fresh. It’s very different from most designers, but just beautiful!

  5. I loved your podcast today. It is exciting to find something you really want to make. Thanks for your work and all of your podcasts. Thanks for the chance to win.

  6. What I think is so amazing about Cory’s talent is that she has 5 kids! I have two whom are mostly grown, and I don’t know where she could possibly find the time to do what she does… and she was there at quilt market too. How does she come up with such sweet ideas, execute them, and sell them at market, and still be a mom?? My hat is off to her! I am more of a machine applique person myself, with the starch method…not enough time otherwise!! Good work Cory!!

  7. Love Cori’s designs and am a follower of her blog. In fact she sent me to meat you. I am a hand appliquer. I am also following you now.

  8. I like hand applique and machine applique. Cori’s designs are refreshing and so “happy”!

  9. I, like you, walked in to Quilts Etc. and saw her ‘Very Berry’ pattern and probably spent a good twenty minutes drooling over it. I swore when I began quilting that I would never do applique, but I HAD to buy this pattern and give it a shot. I love that her designs are inspired by nursery rhymes! Quilts from my childhood have a special place in my heart and so do the stories I heard, and this is an amazingly beautiful way to combine them. Depending on how this quilt goes (my two young children have prevented me from starting it yet), I may be converted to applique for life!

  10. I’m absolutely in awe of Cori’s talent! Her designs are so delicate and beautiful. They’re really lovely! This is my first time to hear about Chitter Chatter Designs, but I am absolutely a fan! I’m so glad that you introduced me to Cori’s work, Annie!

  11. What an exciting find! What I find most amazing about Cory’s talents is that you can feel memories and love for family in her creations. I found it most endearing that when you asked her excitedly “What’s next for you”…without missing a beat, her response was “family”. Cory’s natural creative talents will take her far in life, but her ability to truly balance “self” & “family” is what makes her a star. Thank you for the opportunity to receive some of her beautiful patterns.

  12. Wow, Cori’s quilts are great!! I think what I love most is the textures she creates – visual texture with the color choices, and even the physical texture with some of the fabric choices (and the quilting! wow!!!). I love most of the color palettes in the patterns on the website, and the sweetness of the images she creates.

  13. I think it’s amazing she can put together a business while raising five kids. I love the sentimentality of her designs.

I’ve only recently gotten into hand applique, so I’m still experimenting with which I like better.

  14. What a creative works!! Loves your quilt, really a masterpiece of art!!
I try a hand appliqué once, still in learning stage…

  15. Anyone who can applique is amazing to me. Anyone who designs her own applique is an artist. I was very impressed by her patterns. Thank you for introducing me to her work.

  16. I just came from Cori’s blog. Her designs are amazing! The Old MacDonald quilt is one of my favorites. I love her round, happy animals. Thanks for the giveaway!

  17. I have really enjoyed your podcasts. What a great idea. Cori’s designs are the best. I thought I would never design an applique, but Cori inspired me and my first applique design .It turned out quilte well and appraised for quite a bit of money. I think I read a blog of yours lately that stated how you love hand work. Have you ever tried punch needle embroidery in your quilts ? It is really beautiful.

  18. I have long been one of Cori’s number one fans. her quilts are amazing and I love every one of them. can’t think of a better prize than her patterns. i love Old MacDonald

  19. Creative clutter and chaos is better than idle neatness

I like a sit down project when, well I sit down:)
Or recline on the couch I should say as opposed to sitting at the machine. Cori’s work is sweet and inspirational. She is a generous and talented soul.

  20. I love the little details on her quilts. I look at the quilt and admire it and then notice something more special that I didn’t see at first glance. i love needle turn applique but probably do more machine qpplique since it goes so much faster.

  21. It was fun hearing about Cori and then visiting her site and blog. I especially like her nursery rhyme quilts as well as her obvious love for her children.
I enjoy both hand and machine applique. I like the speed and sturdiness of machine applique and the portability of hand applique. My current applique projects are by machine as I have been spending my hand available time working on the embroidered Bible story blocks that I had started many years ago for my now adult son. After I get them done, I might do some hand applique projects again.

  22. Hi Annie, Thank you for sharing your wonderful finds at the quilt markets. I love, love, love to listen to your podcasts. I’m fairly new to quilting podcasts, but I listen to you while I’m at work and like I told Corri – it takes me away to a place I’d rather be. I just love Corri’s designs! Her quilts are so bright and cheerful. I do a lot of applique, because it’s something I can carry along with me to work. This way I get to play with fabric during my lunch hour. Those cute little blue birds on her Rosie Tweet BOM are just adorable!! And the Sweet as Pie Pincushions are adorable too! The pillow she made for Jane’s retirement is a must have! The crocheted cats are to die for! Thank you for what you do and for introducing and allowing all of us to get to know these talented quilters better. Hope to be hearing from you soon!!

  23. Ok, so what’s NOT amazing about Cori’s talent? Her birdies are adorable!! Her applique is so fantastic. I had the opportunity to actually meet Cori at Spring Market and she is an extremely nice, genuine woman. VERY real and approachable. I really enjoyed talking to her, it was like meeting an old friend for the first time. I like to machine applique better as my hnads hurt a lot when I do too much hand work. Thanks for the chance to win.

  24. I found your blog through Cori’s post – I like the crisp appearance of Cori’s designs – and especially the plump birds. Her applique execution is wonderful. I would probably hand applique. Thanks for the chance.

  25. Hi Annie
What a great ‘find’ indeed! I love the freshness of Cori’s style. Something old fashioned and comfortable totally spiced up. I have to make the bike pillow for my sister! And the pincushions pies! As if I need more pincushions- but if I make it myself… If I had to pick machine applique or machine I think it would be machine- but I do love both.

  26. Her designs are so fresh and new! I am new at applique and love doing it by hand. I am in awe of her talent! thanks for the lovely giveaway!

  27. She is so talented and versatile. I am always on the lookout for something different. Thanks.

  28. I started following Cori’s blog after my sister told me about it. What I find so amazing about her patterns is the pure “Sweetness” of them and their feminity. I just love Rosie Tweets especially!

  29. I am amazed that she has never illustrated for books – I think that her talent would translate well to that arena! Ready, Set, Go! and Cherry Tweet are my favorite patterns of hers but they are all truly gorgeous and I want to learn to applique. I have been quilting for some time, and have done other hand stitching, but am ready to make the jump to applique with these awesome patterns. Thank you so much for featuring her work!

  30. I am amazed at Cori’s designs, they are so fresh and new looking. I compare them to the way changes have come to the traditional block/piece quilting to modern quilting. Don’t you think its an update to applique. Annie thanks for the heads up on this designer. Enjoying and happy you are back podcasting.

  31. Thanks so much for the pod cast! That was my first & I’m going to be a regular. I just love Cori’s designs. They’re so sweet & happy. I first discovered her pie pincushion pattern & now everyone I know wants one!

    Thanks again,
    Heather Mantz

  32. The little bluebird with the nest is too adorable. Thank you for sharing Chitter Chatter. Tami in Denver

  33. Annie,
I love Cori’s site. Her choice of colors is so soft and pretty. It is amazing that she gets so much done with all she has to do! Her family is very special. I really like hand applique better I think. Thanks for the generous giveaway!

  34. Thanks for discovering Cori for me. I’ve never knew anything about her either. I love the bluebirds, and the added embroidery and embellishing she has on some of her designs. I’ve added her blog to my favorites. Thanks
    Donna in Macomb

  35. Annie, I am so glad that you have interviewed Cori. It has been nice to hear about what inspires Cori to create such beautiful work. I especially love her quilt with strawberries, it reminds me of early summer. Thanks so much for a wonderful interview!

  36. Hi Annie. What I think is amazing about Cori’s talent is that she has a very fresh approach to applique. She also has a wide range of patterns (Pretty Peas, Sunset Beach, Go Go Girly) that would appeal to a variety of taste. I prefer hand applique (which is a real surprise to me) over machine. I feel that I have more control with hand applique. Or perhaps I’m intimidated by my machine! Certainly there are times when it’s smarter than I am -ha!ha!.

  37. I think the detail in Cori’s applique is amazing. I love the sweet look of her patterns. I prefer hand applique over machine. I am currently working on #1 of the Rosie Tweet collection.

  38. Cori designs are wonderful. I think her choice of fabrics is also wonderful. Great job!

  39. Loved your podcast with Cori Blunt at Spring Market. I believe the thing I enjoy most about Cori is her generosity in sharing her applique talent with local quilt stores and groups. She wants everyone to enjoy hand applique like she does. For now my favorite applique is machine; however, I’m honing my hand applique skills.

  40. So happy I found Cori through you Annie! She said in her interview that childrens books are an inspiration for her. I definitely see it in her designs but they are very sophisticated (AND BEAUTIFUL) with that bit of flair and fun – that is what I think is amazing about her. I will say that her generosity is amazing too!! The Very Berry quilt just took my breath away. I prefer to applique by machine but have taken a class on hand applique and hope to get better. Thanks for the chance to win.

  41. I absolutely love the little birds and it brings out the Sleeping Beauty/Cinderella princess in me! Not only are the quilts whimsical but so finely made. I LOVE Cori’s sense of color and detail. I do hand applique and also machine embroidery but seeing this beautiful work makes me want to TAKE THE TIME to to “fine” work too. What an inspiriation! I was just in Sandy, Utah visiting from the East and did not know to visit this treasure trove! Thank, Annie and Cori, for your generosity in giving us the prizes.

  42. Thank you for such a lovely giveaway opportunity. What I love most about Cori’s designs is that they are SO sweet without being saccharine; they are timeless.

  43. Cori’s pattern’s are so beautiful! I love Cherry Tweet and I am currently making Rosie Tweet in one of her classes. Her nursery rhyme inspired patterns are just perfect for a little child’s room. I can’t say enough positive things about her obvious talent; she is simply amazing!
